BSA124-Class Stopmotion

I think that everyone did a fantatsic job on their stopmotion. Everyone finished!

I really like Edwin and Thomas's one because it was the most different.

BSA124- Shooting Update

We managed to shoot everything with plenty of time for editing. When editing the first part together I noticed that Bella's hands had been captured on the frames, yet Dragonframe didn't show this.

I spent around 2 hours editing out frame by frame each hand on photoshop before editing the footage all together.

It all worked out thankfully, we only had to reshoot a small amount so I am pretty happy about that.

BSA124- Final Blog Post

Bella and I have created a fully finished stop-motion animation.

Overall I am super happy with how it came out, especially since we got pretty stressed at the start when cameras and dragonframe wouldn't work.

This assessment took a lot of problem solving and learning to complete.

I did all of the editing on After Effects as well as the audio for both the animatic and the final animation.

Bella did all of the puppets and puppet movements.

During the shooting process I took the photos and helped set up the shots.

I also created the backgrounds using Photoshop. I originally planned to paint the backgrounds, but the materials didn't work out as the paint wasn't really fit for it.

BSA124: Feedback on class videos

Aleks

I love the movement and models, they pop out from the screen. Lighting is fantastic and everything is highly detailed and lovely to look at.

Emma, Veronica and Migz

Interesting use of the focus, Focus at the start needs to be a bit longer to establish the fathers drinking habits. The model and set design is fantastic. Very detailed. Colours are quite nice.

Sarah, Laura and Vieka

Shot 1
Love the character models and backgrounds. Colour looks great.

Shot 2
Quite fast, but looks like you can slow it down

Ben, Regil

Love the use of focus, set and characters look fantastic. The red lighting looks quite cool and interesting. looks like it will be great when finished.

Aaron, Akshay, Morgan, Alice

Interesting use shapes. The falling over character is relatable. Stabilizing the Armature in the joints will help with the walk. the paper man needs something solid in him to keep him standing. The current walk is very much like an anamatronic from FNAF.

Max, Melissa and Vinny

Love the designs. Story seems quite funny.

BSA124:Stopmotion shooting

Second class day of shooting. It took an hour to set up the camera and I was late due to a job interview.
We managed to shoot two more scenes.
I am coming in on Saturday to shoot as much as I can. Hopefully I can get 4 scenes shot.

BSA124-Stopmotion Update

I took some of our shots, combined them and then took out Bellas hands that had accidentally been shot without us realising it as Dragonframe didn't show it.

I tried to use both After Effects and Premier to mask out the hands but then found I could import the video into Photoshop and use the tools to edit the hands out. I had to go frame by frame to find those with the hands and paint over then then blend the paint into the original video so it wasn't as noticeable.

This process took 2 hours to figure out and finish.

BSA124: Filming day one

We were unable to film sue to having no power sockets for lights, no bluetack and no proper lighting.

But we did figure out our setup, and mark where everything has to go.  We also did some fun test shots to see how it all looks at the moment.

BSA124: Dope Sheets

Learning about dope sheets

Works by scene,  we work in twos for animating this.
Levels are extra characters or extra things that need to be animated.

Dragonframe has the sheets in the program. It might be best to use this. We can import the file over so that we can use the same file for everything

BSA124-Making Workshop

I also created a small reference image thing for the backgrounds

BVA142-Exquisite Corpse Full Collaboration

The full collaboration of our class

BVA124-Lighting

Lighting video notes

Lighting affects the mood of the animation.
Very close to theater lighting, must be robust and repeatable.
Very precise lighting

use for mesh for more natural lighting

Animators clothing can affect lighting. keep everything the same.

Two lamps to counter out strobing effect.

More powerful light in front of and at 45 angle, position lamp behind subjects. nice shadows and stuff.

Translucent paper will help cut flashing and strobing effects.

In relation to each short, the following had to be on their gnatt chart

Deadline
  • Materials list
  • Organising time for sticking on notes
  • SHooting space
Pig and the Wolf
  • How many photos and how long to develop
  • Organise how long to create pig
  • Organised time with actor

BSA124: Animatic Stuff

Bella created the visuals for the animatic, I am putting all of the sounds, credits and effects to polish it all up. I will post it later once I have more sounds in

BSA124-Paper animation and cameras with Chris

12m is widest lens
18mm is the kit lens

most cameras have 50mm, default lens

Wider angles means sharper background focus, smaller lens means sharper subject focus.

Use Cheqroom for booking out equipment.

exposure bar shows optimal exposure

Dragonframe is an interetsing but fun piece of software to play with

BSA124-Stopmotion Experiment

Bella and I got to experiment with the camera and Plasticine to create a 5 second stop motion animation.

I love it. This was fun to create

BSA124-Daily Post 5

Chris came in to teach us about camera work. We got into pairs within our group to work with cameras

There are more lenses for Nikon and there are remotes for Nikon.

Each group got a camera, battery and tripod out. Bella and I have Camera:05  Tripod:  both under Bella's name.

Have a look at filmotagosouthland.com

Camera needs to be able to be locked down on the tripod. It also needs to be compatible with Dragonframe

Use different lenses. We will use the D90 because they are the most readily available.

We will need one zoom lense for our close up shots.

no automatic settings at all

shoot in raw for better editing

FE error means aperture settings not right. Set to minimum (22 or 16 its in orange)

ISO-sensor sensitivity.
lower=less noise needs more light to expose properly
High= more noise less light to expose properly

Stop motion in controlled lighting and static figures choose lowest ISO for less noise

Shutter Speed doesnt matter with stop motion

Aperture- Medium setting are probably best. Depth of field adjusts with aperture

most time is doubling and halving

to change ISO hold ISO button glass and scroll back wheel. stick with 200

Front roller changes aperture.

Light bulb WB setting

Dragonframe doesnt need remote, but if not connected via USB to Dragonframe use a remote.

to connect remote to camera, hold mutli rectangle and scroll to remote icon

If soft reset, change quality back to raw.

BSA124-Daily Post 2

Worked through more of the proposal.

Our backgrounds are going to be painted or sulcpted using the same techniques as Halas and Batchelor.

I am having a hard time trying to find any techniques that Halas and Batcherlor used.

we try to build an armature, and im crying. It isnt fun and it is very annoying
