This montage cracked me up. Excellent work with keeping up with the lectures in your blog and watching and reviewing movies. You won't love, or even like, everything you watch this year, but by watching a movie like Saving Private Ryan, which you said isn't a genre you'd normally be in to, you're on your way to defining the kinds of stories you DO want to tell.
